“At the height of this mission, at the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Sacrament of his Body and his Blood, the Memorial of his Paschal Sacrifice. By so doing he replaced the ancient sacrifices with himself, but he did so in a rite which he commanded the Apostles to perpetuate, as a supreme sign of the true Sacred One who is he himself. With this faith, dear brothers and sisters, let us celebrate the Eucharistic Mystery today and every day and adore it as the center of our life and the heart

“...the Holy Spirit, whose nature is always the same, simple and indivisible, apportions grace to each man as he wills. Like a dry tree which puts forth shoots when watered, the soul bears the fruit of holiness when repentance has made it worthy of receiving the Holy Spirit. Although the Spirit never changes, the effects of his action, by will of God and in the name of Christ, are both many and marvelous.” (St. Cyril of Jerusalem)  Happy Pentecost! A wish of abundant blessings to all mothers on this special day. May you know the protection and counsel of the Virgin Mother and always be honored for your unique and indispensable role in the family. May God rest our beloved deceased mothers. May they bask forever with the Virgin Mother in the glory of God for all of the selfless good they offered us in this life.

Thursday of this week commemorates the solemn feast of the Ascension of the Lord. Please note that this is a Holy Day of Obligation that requires Mass attendance in the same manner as weekly Sunday observance. There will be NO anticipated Mass on the Wednesday evening before the feast.

Congratulations to Dr. William Hahn and Mr. John Vaskov who were “called to orders” last Monday evening by Bishop David Zubik. A candidate for the first two levels of Holy Orders (diaconate, priesthood) must be officially recognized and called by the bishop before the ordination can take place (and preparations for it may commence). Bill and John will be ordained for the permanent diaconate of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Cathedral. It is my hope that

“…the passion of our Savior is the salvation of mankind. The reason why he desired to die for us was that he wanted us who believe in him to live forever. In the fullness of time it was his will to become what we are, so that we might inherit the eternity he promised and live with him forever.” (Ancient Easter Homily)

We offer sincere condolences to Father Edward Litavec on the death of his sister, Mary Krofchek, who was buried on Thursday, April 4.

Sincere thanks to all who provided their

“Are you not aware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Through baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life.”...If we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.” (Romans 6:3-4,8) Easter blessings and best wishes for a celebration of new life and renewal of faith in the Risen Lord!

Congratulations to Sheila
